Mrs. Wiater’s 1st graders harvested tomatoes from Westfall’s Community Garden and turned them into homemade spaghetti sauce! After learning how tomatoes grow and working together to prepare the recipe, the class enjoyed a delicious spaghetti meal to celebrate.

On Thursday, students were welcomed by the WHS Pride of the Mustangs Band before an energetic PBIS assembly, which reviewed expectations for positive behavior this school year. To keep the excitement going, our School Resource Officer, Deputy Freeman, joined in on the fun with a game that had everyone laughing! Five students who have shown positive behavior since the start of the year were selected to cover his head in shaving cream. Then, Mrs. Patterson and Mrs. Wolfe faced off to see who could stick the most Fruit Loops to the shaving cream. Mrs. Patterson won the challenge—but the real winner of the day was Deputy Freeman, who was such a good sport! We also celebrated our spirit stick winners for the quarter: Miss Pleska’s 1st-grade class, Ms. Dowden’s 3rd-grade class, and Mrs. Sullivan’s 5th-grade class. Congratulations!

Fridays have become cooking days in Ms. Rhoads’ class! Last week, students baked chocolate chip cookies, and this week they set the table and made pancakes with sausage. A fun way to end the week with good food and teamwork!

After learning about the life cycle of a butterfly and discovering their classroom guest was a female, Mrs. Wippel’s 2nd graders released their beautiful Monarch. The students were especially careful not to disturb their butterfly friend’s chrysalis during the release, as a fellow Monarch is expected to emerge next week. Safe travels, Lady Monarch!

Sprinkled with kindness! Mrs. Woods’ 2nd-graders loved reading The Jelly Donut Difference! After the story, they shared how kindness makes their hearts feel full — and capped it off with a donut celebration. Now that's what we call a sweet lesson!

Westfall Elementary is proud to continue our PBIS system, which encourages students to show Mustang PRIDE by being Prepared, Respectful Individuals Determined to Excel. Throughout the school year, students can earn tickets or points for positive behavior and use them to shop at our PBIS store.

In addition, each quarter brings a new incentive for students who consistently meet expectations. These rewards give students something exciting to look forward to while reinforcing positive choices in the classroom, restroom, hallways, cafeteria, recess, and bus.

We are proud to celebrate Mustang PRIDE all year long!
